Pitse Lodge is situated in the malaria-free 33 000 hectare Welgevonden Private Game Reserve in the Limpopo Province. Welgevonden forms part of the Waterberg Biosphere Region and borders on the Marakele National Park.
Accommodation
Pitse Lodge can accommodate a total of 10 people. The accommodation at Pitse is made up as follows:
Lodges 1, 2, 5 – stand alone thatch and stone houses with luxurious en-suite bathrooms, outside showers and an outside wooden deck.
Lodges 3, 4 – these two units are linked by an entrance hall and are ideal for families with small children.
The main lodge consists of a lounge, library, dining area and outside deck which overlooks the open plains where leisurely breakfasts, lunches, sunset drinks and candlelit dinners can be enjoyed.
Children
As the lodge is let out to only one group at a time it is ideal for families with children. The exclusivity also allows for game drive activities to be scheduled around your family. Cots are available on request.
Facilities at the lodge
The lodge has a well stocked library complete with video and CD player facilities. There is a swimming pool and an outside boma for dining.Equipment for small conferences can be arranged on request.Fax and telephone facilities are available.
Meals and dietary requirements
All meals are prepared by our chef at the lodge. The freshest produce is used and we make use of organic herbs and vegetables from our own garden, wherever possible. Please advise us in advance of any special dietary requirements and we will endeavor to accommodate these wherever possible.
Activities
Daily game drives and walks are arranged. The ranger will provide a guideline for these activities but you may arrange activities to suit yourself.
Day picnics can be arrange into other areas of the reserve as well as the Marakele National Park which is currently being extended by close to 20 000 hectares. This will bring the Park up to 75 000 hectares. Marakele is home to one of the world’s largest breeding colonies of the endangered Cape Vulture.
Outings can also be arranged for those with special interest to our breeding facility for endangered roan and sable antelope and disease free buffalo.
Characteristic Species
Lion, elephant, white rhino, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, eland, kudu and many other species of game occur in the area. There are occasional sitings of leopard and cheetah. Welgevonden has an extensive bird and plant species list. In the Pitse area there are unique populations of blue cranes, secretary birds and Cape Vultures. The lodge is well known for its large presence of white rhino, which often graze very close to the lodge.
Medical Facilities
The local town of Vaalwater is 45 minutes drive away. There are several doctors, a paediatrician and a pharmacist in town.

The lodge is booked out to only one set of guests at a time which ensures you total exclusivity.

Transfers to and from the reserve
Deposits and cancellations
A 50% deposit on all bookings is required to secure the reservation. The balance of the accommodation is required prior to arrival.All transfers arranged on behalf of the client are required to be prepaid prior to arrival.
Cancellation charges will be as follows :
46-90 days prior to arrival 25% cancellation fee22-45 days prior to arrival 50% cancellation fee0-21 days prior to arrival 100% cancellation fee
Arrival and departure time
Arrival time is after 13h00. Departure time is 11h00. Wherever possible we will try and accommodate arrival and departure times outside of those stipulated.

…Self drive from Jhb / PretoriaTake the N1 highway north towards Pietersburg.Take the off ramp to NylstroomTravel straight through Nylstroom60kms to Vaalwater Travel straight through Vaalwater7 kms after the Total garage and Spar (on your left hand side) turn left onto the Bakkerspas Road (dirt/gravel road)Travel for 29 kms and you will see a small sign on the right hand side to Welgevonden South Gate. Turn right and travel 200metres to the gate. You will be met at the gate by your ranger.Please advise the lodge when you have left Vaalwater.

The lodge is a 2 ½ - 3 hour drive from Johannesburg and a 50 minute flight.
